For the six trim levels included in the Ford Expedition’s 2022 range, you’ll find one standard engine, that’s been specially calibrated to produce three different outputs. Across the board, you’ll find a 3.5-liter turbocharged V6 engine paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission. In the standard configuration, this engine produces 375 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque. When you opt for the Platinum, you can achieve 400 horsepower and 480 lb-ft of torque. Lastly, the Timberline’s version of this engine can produce up to 440 horsepower, and 510 lb-ft of torque. Plus, 4-wheel drive is available across the board, and the Expedition can even tow up to 9,300 pounds when properly equipped!
The Chevy Suburban has a trim level lineup of six models, and there are three possible engine options depending on the trim level you choose. The standard engine is a 5.3-liter V8 rated at 355 horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque. Up next, there’s a 6.2-liter V8 rated at 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque. Lastly, there’s an available 3.0-liter inline-six that delivers 277 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque. A 10-speed automatic transmission comes standard across the board, and 4-wheel drive is an available option. Compared to the Expedition, the Suburban isn’t quite as capable, however, with lower ratings for both horsepower and torque, and a lower towing capacity of 7,800 pounds.
The Expedition has tons of options in terms of its design. For example, you can choose whether you’d like a five-seat SUV, or a full-sized 8-seat model. Some standard safety features include automatic high beams, lane-keeping assist, and blind-spot monitoring. The Expedition also comes with standard tech features like a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot, and a 12-inch infotainment touchscreen. Through your infotainment system, you can access wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone connectivity. The Timberline offers a sporty design with dual exhaust, off-road shocks, and bold exterior trim. Other available features include leather-trimmed seats, a panoramic sunroof, and real wood trim!
The 2022 Chevy Suburban doesn’t look like a sporty SUV at first glance. While the Expedition has sleek character lines and bold accents on certain trim levels, the Suburban presents a more stoic look, with a rectangular frame and vertical headlights. Some standard features include 18-inch wheels and an 8-inch infotainment touchscreen. Moving up to the next level, you’ll find more advanced tech like a larger touchscreen, a wireless smartphone charging pad, and a 9-speaker sound system. On upper trim levels, you’ll find other features such as 20-inch wheels, heated and ventilated seats, and a head-up display. Notably, while blind-spot monitoring comes standard on the Expedition, it’s only available on the Suburban’s upper trim levels.
