2021 Ford Explorer at Columbine Ford

Itā€™s always easy to tell why Ford outperforms all of the competition year in and year out, especially with the Explorer leading the charge. In the 2021 model year, the Ford Explorer is most certainly not playing any games. Youā€™ll even find the addition of a Sport Appearance package for the XLT trim, and even a few changes for the standard and optional feature availability. None of that negates the rear-wheel drive platform that gives you great handling, nor the strong engines that always allow for quick acceleration. Basically, the Ford Explorer is as good as it has ever been, which means itā€™s time to get behind the wheel of one! Keep reading down below for more information about this SUV.

10-Speed Transmission

The 10-speed transmission makes transitioning between speeds a more efficient process, ensuring smooth upshifts and downshifts. Compared with a 6-speed, the 10-speed delivers improved overall performance, with enhanced acceleration at the low and mid ranges of the power band.

Side-Wind Stabilization

Side-wind stabilization, standard on all series, can help counteract heavy wind conditions. This feature helps to stabilize the vehicle in situations where you are likely to encounter heavy gusts of wind. What does the Ford Explorer have for engines?

You will be able to choose between two different engines when you get the Ford Explorer. This allows for the ability to upgrade from the base engine, should you be in need of more power. The base engine itself is a 2.3-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder, which produces 310 pound-feet of torque and around 300 horsepower. The other available engine is a 3.0-liter turbocharged V6, which creates 400 horsepower and 415 pound-feet of torque. A ten-speed automatic transmission comes paired with both of these engines, as does rear-wheel drive. You will be able to get all-wheel drive if you choose the Platinum model. As you can tell, this is an SUV that will be able to handle anything, trust us.

What is the 2021 Explorer Lineup?

Even after figuring out which engine you are most interested in getting with your Explorer, you still need to figure out the standard and optional features that are available. The base trim will get you standard features like Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, remote monitoring, tri-zone automatic climate control, 50/50-split folding third-row seats, an eight-inch touchscreen, an in-vehicle WiFi hotspot, a power liftgate, and a power-adjustable driverā€™s seat. The XLT adds onto that trim with second-row USB ports, heated front seats, roof rails, second-row captainā€™s chairs, keyless entry and ignition, a power-adjustable driverā€™s seat, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. The Limited model includes ventilated front seats, a navigation system, interior ambient lighting, a heated steering wheel, a wireless charging pad, second-row sunshades, leather upholstery, and a 12-speaker Bang & Olufsen audio system.
